Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Against Blackism
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome is one of the most prominent miracle preachers in Nigeria, it goes without saying that a big number of Nigerians believe that he possesses divine abilities going by the numbers that throng his churches. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome claims that the "Black Lives Matter" slogan is not something to be proud of particularly for black people. The main issue of concern here being the color black. He claims that black people should reject being described as black. During one of his services, he said "Maybe I should tell you something those of you that say that black lives matter, I feel sorry for you, Do you really believe that you have a black life? Do you want me to tell you the meaning of black? Who called you black? Shouldn't you have rejected that from the beginning? A contradiction, a bundle of contradiction, You refused negro and nigger but that's what black is So you took the English version negro means black, Do you know what black is?Tell me, Have you ever seen black, do you know the meaning of black?black means the absence of color, absence of god, absence of light, absence of direction, that's the meaning of black, black is not a color, its the absence of color, its like you're sick, don't you understand it? So now you call yourselves black lives, its about time Africans say to themselves, were not black because we're not black, what is black in your skin?"
How black are you really? They keep laughing at you as you call yourself black, they keep laughing at you, open any dictionary find out the meaning of black and tell me if you find anything good associated with the word black. Find out, you're not black, you have got to change it, the same way negro, nigger became a racial slur, black should be labelled a racial slur because its used in connection with your color..."He went on and on to criticize the name black to describe the Negro race.
Black people are notorious for preferring light skin over dark skin. This stemmed from years of slavery and colonization, lighter skin became associated with class and beauty while dark skin became associated with ugliness and poverty. Currently many black people bleach their skins to boost their esteems. I am not therefore surprised by Pastor Chris Oyakhilome's sentiments.
